About Our Family

We are the Hutchens Family.  We currently live in Eastover, SC, near Fort Jackson with our children Jordan (18) who is college bound to Columbia International University to major in music and Bible, Ashley (16), Sarah (14) and David (14).

I retired from 20 years active military service with the United States Army.  I enjoy outdoor hobbies and food.

My lovely wife, Cathy, is a home school mom who enjoys imparting knowledge of our Lord and His world to our children.  Our family enjoys camping and traveling together.

We are currentl
y working as Interim Retreat Center Directors.  Our desire is to become fulltime directors at Victory Ranch as soon as our support levels will allow.  Our home/sending church is Liberty Baptist Church, in Spring Lake, NC.

Victory Ranch

Victory Ranch is a place where Soldiers in training come to rest, relax and be a civilian for a weekend.  They also hear the gospel of Christ and eat home-cooked meals.  Chaplain Candidates attending the Chaplains Basic course on Ft. Jackson also come out to rest and refit
during planned weekday retreats especially for them.  Our nation's Wounded Warriors recovering at Ft. Jackson also have a retreat at Victory Ranch once a month.  Monday evenings we provide a Bible study to Trainees recovering from training related injuries.  We also
volunteer at the Fortress Coffee House on Friday nights.  Fortress Coffee House is currently being directed by Andrea Haddock, who ministers to single women in the military at Ft. Jackson.

Our History with Cadence International

In 1992 I met and married my lovely bride, Cathy, at Liberty Baptist Church.  At that time the senior pastor was C.P. "Tark" Tarkington.  Tark was one of the original four founders of Overseas Christian Servicemen's Centers (OCSC), later renamed Cadence International.  We benefitted greatly under his teaching and pastoral care.

As is usual I eventually was assigned away from Ft. Bragg, NC, and eventually was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska (no, I did not make some General mad, I actually volunteered :>).  There we became more intimately involved with Cadence when we began attending Dan and Barb Evans' ministry at the Mountain Chapel Hospitality House.

Meanwhile, we were praying for the Lord's guidance as my military retirement approached.  Through the leading of the Holy Spirit and the encouragement of one of Cathy's lifelong friends we began to explore serving with Cadence.  Our return to Ft. Bragg, NC, introduced us to the Ft. Bragg Hospitality House where we were given the opportunity to continue serving.  The regional director Dave Bobbey even trusted us to lead Friday night activities for a short time while Bruce and Wendy Dower (Ft. Bragg Hospitality House directors) were still en route.  All this and more continued to confirm with us that serving with Cadence International was where the Lord was leading us.

Prayer Requests
  • That we can continue to build our support team while directing the Retreat Center so we can remain on the field.
  • Guidance for our oldest daughter Jordan this year as she attends college at Columbia International University.
  • That we would listen carefully for God's voice to accomplish His work, not ours, while serving at Victory Ranch.
