Personal Biographies
Ed grew up in a Swiss family in Roseburg, Oregon, where he was born again at fourteen years of age. He was blessed to go forward publicly at an altar call with both of his parents and his two younger brothers. After graduating from high school, and having no clue where God wanted to use him, he attended Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan, earning his Bachelor of Religious Education degree. Subsequently, he also earned a bachelor of Arts in Management of Human Resources from George Fox University.
Suzie grew up in Oregon as well, but lived at several addresses prior to graduating high school in Roseburg. She became a Christian at Warm Lake Conservative Baptist Camp, near Cascade, Idaho. After graduating from high school, Suzie attended Judson Baptist College and then completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from Portland State University. She also has a younger brother who is now retired from the U. S. Air Force.
Suzie and Ed married on 28 June, 1986. They have two children; Greg (born in 1988) and Julie (born in 1990). Greg, who is not yet sure what he wants to do occupationally, has begun college by taking general education courses. Julie is in the home stretch of her home-schooling and has turned into a fine young Christian lady.
Military and Ministry History of Ed and Suzie Buri
While stationed with the U. S. Army (1986-1988) just outside of Heilbronn, Germany, Ed and Suzie worked with dependent youth of military personnel at Wharton Barracks Community Chapel. The need for ministry to soldiers and families became evident to them while there and, several years later, helped them respond to a calling to ministry with Cadence International, then called Overseas Christian Servicemen’s Centers.
Their first assignment (May 1994 – July 1996) was to the Kirch-Goens Hospitality House near Ayers Kaserne (“The Rock”), not far from Giessen, Germany. Ministering there until the house closed due to military base realignment and closures, the Buris learned practical lessons about God’s faithfulness through the many opportunities for growth there. They would never have imagined so many challenges!
After a ten month home assignment, Ed and Suzie were re-assigned to direct the Christian Fellowship House (June 1997 – August 2003) at Fort Lewis, Washington. With this assignment came the blessing of working together with a great team consisting of Cadence staff, Navigator missionaries, and chapel folks who loved the Lord.
The Lord then called them to Fellowship Ranch (September 2003 – April 2006) where they served as helpers in a very fruitful evangelism ministry. While the fruit was wonderful, their gifting did not fit the ministry as well as in a hospitality setting. There also, after nine months of waiting for a waiver to come through, Ed got back into the military via the Air National Guard.
Currently (July 2007 – Present), the Buris serve at Mountain Home AFB in Mountain Home, Idaho. Following three (primarily) Army ministries, this is their first Air Force base assignment and they hope to be flexible enough to adjust well to any new changes for them.
Praying For the Buri Family
Please pray for a productive time of ministry for them in Mountain Home. They want to partner with chaplains, discover where God is already at work, and develop relationships that matter. Desiring to both glorify God and be a blessing to those whom they encounter, please pray also for discernment, ministry partnerships that edify, and protection from evil.
Other Personal Notes
Among Ed’s interests are men’s ministries, music (listening), and things medieval, such as renaissance faires.
Suzie enjoys women’s ministries, quilting, and collecting and organizing recipes.
