The Hydes’ ministry objective is to provide retreats to the soldiers and the chaplains at Fort Hood. The Fort Hood Hospitality House specializes in day retreats. In attempting to meet the needs of the Fort Hood Community, these retreats focus on evangelism, spiritual fitness, marriage, leadership, communication, and preparing singles for marriage. The schedule of activities varies. The most popular days for retreats tend to be Wednesday and Friday. The retreats run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. In the past, Friday evening and Sunday afternoon fellowship times have been provided and will begin again when the retreat facilities are completed.
Biography of Ben & Doris
Ben and Doris Hyde have been with Cadence International for 15 years. On their first assignment in 1986, they established a hospitality house near Camp Walker in Taegu, Korea. Subsequently, in ‘92, they were assigned to Fort Hood, Texas and established a hospitality house and retreat center on the west side of Fort Hood. They have been there eight years. Ben and Doris have two daughters, Bethany and Brittany. Doris homeschools the girls. The girls are active in Awanas, piano and voice lessons, and a homeschool co-op. Within the past year the Hydes have relocated the Hospitality House to a larger facility. They are presently renovating some of the buildings and improving the grounds for retreats. With much of the main building completed, retreats have resumed. Ben is from Maryland and went to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Mutlnomah Bible School. Doris is from Ohio and went to Taylor University in Fort Wayne and Wheaton Graduate School. Both are active in the Chapel programs on Post. Ben teaches Sunday school and Doris plays piano and organ for two worship services. Before the Hydes were married, Ben served in Korea with TEAM mission. The Kramers, Wilsons, and Cadys were in Korea with OCSC under the sponsorship of TEAM. Ben was impressed with the ministries of these families and especially their children’s involvement. Ben and Doris were married and decided they wanted to do a hospitality ministry. They requested a change to OCSC.
