I graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts/Theatre and a minor in Biblical Studies from Faulkner University in 2008. I first felt God’s call to youth ministry in 2006 after attending a youth ministry lecture at Faulkner. I remember sitting there and a thought just popped into my head: “It would be so cool to do what Jim and Rachel did in Japan!” To backtrack a little, Jim and Rachel Turnage were my youth group leaders when my family lived at Yokota Air Base, Japan. My experience in Japan and my growth as a Christian would have been significantly different without their involvement in my life.
Prior to that random thought that occurred as I was nearing the end of college, I had never considered getting involved with youth ministry. As crazy as it seemed, I followed God's lead and started working with the youth group in my home church. I absolutely love it. I find joy in helping students know God, and freedom in just being silly with them! Throughout the last few years, God never let the desire to serve with Cadence Student Ministries fade and I'm so excited to be going back to Japan (Okinawa, this time!) to work with the teenagers of military families.
