Position Summary:

The Controller has primary responsibility for all accounting functions, maintaining the accounting system, producing yearly and monthly financial reports and analyses, and participating in special projects as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparation and processing of the organization’s payroll including payroll-related actions and reports such as federal and state income tax withholding, FICA and Medicare, etc.
• Serve as focal point for headquarters-related accounting matters and for multiple missionary and project accounts as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with governmental tax and legal filing requirements and other reporting regulations.
• Serves as the Cadence International accounting subject matter expert.
• Coordinates the annual Cadence International external audit and provides extensive data to the annual audit.
• Ensures the accuracy of monthly payroll activities and processing.
• Assists in the development of the annual budget.
• Develop, implement and enhance accounting systems and procedures.
• Prepares monthly and yearly financial statements and management reports.
• Implement and monitor internal control procedures.
• Participate in and supervise monthly and year-end closing and reconciliation procedures.
• Work closely with other staff and field missionaries to monitor the preparation and execution of operating budgets.
• Directly supervise the subordinate accounting staff in all day-to-day accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets and accounts receivable.
• Assists in the coordination of the annual audit working closely with the auditors in the preparation of audit papers, schedules and other documentation.
• Performs monthly bank reconciliations.

Working Relationships/Accountability:

The Controller is accountable to, is supervised by and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.  The Controller is the direct supervisor for all accounting positions in the Finance Department.  The incumbent in this position will work closely with members of the headquarters staff, missionaries in the field and relevant governmental agencies.

Qualifications:

• B.A./B.S. degree in accounting or business administration with an accounting concentration.
• CPA preferred.
• Broad knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Born-again, mature Christian with an affinity for the mission and work of Cadence International.
• At least five years accounting experience
• Not-for- profit accounting experience is highly desirable.
• A minimum of two years of direct supervisory experience.
• Desire working knowledge of Sage MIP Fund Accounting or similar nonprofit accounting software preferred.
• Prefer proficiency with the MS Office Suite – particularly MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Ability to take initiative, analyze problems, identify alternatives and take appropriate corrective actions; adaptability to new and changing situations; strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under the pressure of deadlines; detail-oriented; ability to learn new skills and build collaborative working partnerships with others.

Salary Range:
•    $58,000 - $65,000 per year
